Policy Statement
The Pawtucket Public Library maintains a presence on social media in order to foster
communication with library users and publicize the Library’s collections, services, and events.
To participate in Library social media services, the user must agree to abide by Library policy.

Social media is defined as any website, application or platform that allows users to generate and
share content online.

General Statement
The Library’s social media posts must be accurate, respectful, reflect the mission and vision of
the Library, and respect copyright and public records laws.

The Library welcomes interaction with the members of the community and invites comments,
posts and messages. All comments, posts and messages are subject to review. The Library
reserves the right to remove any content, post or message that it deems to be abusive,
defamatory, in violation of intellectual property rights or otherwise inappropriate.

User-Generated Content Regulation
Content containing the following will be removed:
     ➢ Disrespectful, inflammatory or off-topic comments
     ➢ Obscene, sexist, racist or otherwise threatening comments
     ➢ Personal attacks, insults, threats, or harassment of library staff or users
     ➢ Libelous and slanderous statements
     ➢ Plagiarized or copyrighted material without permission or authority
     ➢ Information that is likely to compromise the safety or security of the public
     ➢ Private or personal information published without consent
     ➢ Comments, postings or web links not related to the content created by the Library staff
     ➢ Commercial promotions, spam, or organized political activity
     ➢ Hyperlinks, photos, video and images which meet any of the above criteria

If an individual repeatedly and/or habitually provides content to Library-sponsored social media
platforms that meet the criteria above, the Library reserves the right to withhold that individual’s
ability to post to Library-sponsored social media accounts.

By posting a comment, users agree to indemnify the Pawtucket Public Library, City of
Pawtucket, its employees and its trustees from and against any liabilities, judgments, damages
and costs incurred which arise out of or are related to content posted. The Library assumes no
liability regarding any event or interaction that takes place by any participant on any Library-sponsored social networking site, and does not endorse third-party content.

Library’s Use of Content
The Library reserves the right to reproduce comments, posts, and messages in other public
venues without further permission from subscribers.

The Library does not collect, maintain or otherwise use the personal information stored on any
third party site other than to communicate with users on those sites.

The Library may collect some anonymous data for statistical and anecdotal purposes.

The Library assumes no liability regarding any content provided by any participant in Library-sponsored social media accounts.

Posted comments are the opinion of the poster only, and publication of any content does not imply the endorsement of the Pawtucket Public Library.

Use of Library-sponsored social networking sites implies agreement with the terms of this
