A free field trip to the library is a great way to celebrate literacy and learn about the wonderful resources that the Pawtucket Children's Library has to offer children, their families and their educators.
Children's Library tours can fit most curriculum needs and may include any/all of the following:
- Introduction to the library through "What does the library have for you?" PowerPoint presentation
- Tour of the Children's Library introducing the print collection, the Internet computer stations, the database computer stations (includes the Ocean State Catalog), audio visual collections, and library programs
- Visit to the Circulation Desk to view where to check out books and where to return books
- Ocean State Libraries online catalog demonstration
- Online database overview including the difference between databases and web sites
- Online resources overview including TumbleBooks, Ezone, and Live Homework Help
- Participation in Lego Club in the Children's Caidin Room (part of the STEM curriculum)
- Story time for young children with books, music, movement, and a craft
- Booktalks
- An area for groups to eat bagged lunches (depending on room availability)
