The library provides access to many resources genealogy researchers may find helpful.

Library Research Databases

  • Ancestry.com Library Edition Ancestry Library Edition contains hundreds of millions of names from sources such as federal and U.S. censuses; birth, death, and marriage records including the Social Security Death Index; and U.S. border crossing and trans-ocean ship records.  Access Ancestry from inside the library building here
  • NewsBank Newspapers (Remote Access Available)The Newsbank newspaper database includes the Pawtucket Times, The Times, the Valley Breeze Pawtucket Edition, and the Providence Journal.  Remote Users: At login enter your 14-digit Pawtucket Public Library card number if prompted
  • Pawtucket Library Digital Newspapers This collection includes the Pawtucket Times from 1886-1960 and the Pawtucket Gazette & Chronicle from 1825-1912. The goal of this project is to digitize the Library’s microfilm collection of Pawtucket newspapers. Additional years will be added as funding, grants and donations allow. Please note that search results may appear to contain misspellings and jumbled words due to the age of some of the editions. This does not affect the quality of the search results or the image of the actual newspaper article.

Pawtucket Times Obituaries

Library staff can provide copies of up to three (3) obituaries per month for researchers. Obituary requests must include the exact date of death.

For printed copies of obituaries from the Pawtucket Times, please send a self-addressed stamped envelope along with a small donation to cover printing costs to:
